Messages of Solidarity: We Stand with the CTU!

Teachers in the occupied West Bank are also striking for many of the same reasons: job security, better working conditions, and most importantly, for the students. I’m a product of Chicago’s public school system and I owe so much to my teachers. Thank you for the great work that you do.

Solidarity from Utah

From Utah Democrats:

Chicago teachers are taking a stand for quality education and fair
employment practices.  They understand and define key elements
necessary to support professionals and students in classrooms.  They
envision changes in the system that will realistically effect desired
results.  They are leaders uniting their voices, speaking for teachers
across the country, acting for the rights of educators, parents, and
young Americans.  We caucus leaders of the Salt Lake County Democratic
Party, are proud to stand in solidarity with the CTU in their strike
and in their contract negotiations.

In the name of professional integrity, dignity, and quality,

Elizabeth Weight, Labor Caucus (AFT member)
Robert Comstock & Valerie Cazier, Educators’ Caucus
Becky Moss & Todd Bennett, Utah Stonewall Democrats
Jason Wessel, Progressive Caucus
Miriam Hyde & Melissa Walton, Disability Caucus
Josh Kreek & John Merrick, Veterans’ Caucus

"Jobs with Justice of East Tennessee and United Campus Workers-CWA, a public higher education workers union in Tennessee, came together in Knoxville and had a strike solidarity spaghetti supper in support of the CTU strike. Nearly forty people attended, more sent donations, and we raised over $600 for the strike fund! We also talked about the need for public sector organizing, fights against privatization and corporate-led ‘reform’ efforts, and building crucial community-labor coalitions. (Unfortunately we also had to talk about the fact that our teachers and all public sector workers in Tennessee are legally prevented from striking, and even collective bargaining.)
Just thought you’d like to see how organized labor, even in the Right to Work South, is coming together to support your strike! Solidarity from down South!”
